Yolo Idol Search Entry Forms are available here. 2007 Yolo County Fair Hosts ‘Yolo Idol Search’ Competition
For the fourth year, the Yolo County Fair is featuring the “Yolo Idol Search.” Open to singers residing in Yolo County, the Yolo Idol event will be at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 16, on the West Stage next to the Rotary Park picnic area.
Yolo County Fair is one of several county fairs in Northern California hosting an “Idol Search” competition. The Yolo County Fair winner receives a $250 prize and may be eligible to compete at CalExpo in September of 2008. “We’ve had a Northern California winner. In 2005 Alincia Vela took it all at the Gold Country Fair. It was exciting to be in the audience that night,” said Lonny Wunder, Yolo County Fairgrounds CEO.
While there is no entry fee to enter the competition, there are a few rules.
Each singer must pre-register at the Fair Office, 1125 East Street, Woodland. Forms may be obtained at the Fair’s website www.yolocountyfair.net.
Yolo Idol Search is open to individual singers. No groups, duos or other combinations will be allowed. Each singer must be prepared to sing two songs; one ballad and one upbeat song.
“Depending on the number of entries we receive, contestants will sing one or two songs, We want them prepared to sing at least two songs, and, of course, the winner will want to perform an encore,” Wunder said.
Each singer’s accompaniment must be on a CD provided by the contestant. A sound system is provided.
Due to time limitations, registrations will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The first 20 contestants to sign up will be able to participate.
“There are many talented people in Yolo County, and we want to showcase their talents,” said Wunder.
While the popular Fox Television show American Idol may have inspired this local talent search, Idol Search is in no way affiliated with American Idol.
