Vocal Showcase - Yolo County Fair!

Anticipation Heats Up For The Return of the 2022 Yolo Idol.

The Yolo County Fair’s most popular event the “Vocal Showcase” ~ formally and traditionally well known as the “Yolo Idol” ~ continues to draw hundreds of ardent fans to watch Yolo County contestants displaying their many talents. The Yolo County Fair is happy to announce its triumphant return this summer after the COVID pandemic hiatus. 2019’s event was the largest ever with the talent strong from top to bottom so the anticipation is palpable with inquiries asking if the competition will be back on this year.

Contestants for 2022 are allowed to play an instrument as well as perform their own original songs if they wish or they can choose the traditional option of singing along to a karaoke track which is still the most popular option. Applicants are encouraged to submit, along with their application, a video, YouTube link or recording of themselves. With so many applicants submitting for this year’s Vocal Showcase, it will give Ericka Davis a chance to assess the talent and narrow the number of contestants.

The Vocal Showcase contest will take place from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18th, followed by the Yolo County band from West Sacramento “Joy & Madness” with their 8-piece soul and funk explosion. They’ve shared the stage with performers as prolific as Tower of Power, Trombone Shorty, and Collective Soul so you’ll be full to the brim of sweet joyous funk the rest of this exciting Thursday night at the fair!

Judging for the Vocal Showcase will be based on vocal quality, difficulty of performance, stage presence, appropriateness of the song selection and appearance.

From the contestants, the Top 3 will be selected by judges to sing a second song, which will determine the Vocal Showcase winner, runner up and third place contestant.

The winner will take home $250 and the second and third place contestants will take home $100 and $50, respectively.

Master of Ceremonies will be Woodland’s own Ericka Davis, recording artist and performer, who’s dedicated passion of encouraging local talent to shine has motivated her to direct the show for over 10 years. She’s thrilled to announce an extra special panel of 4 experienced judges including the acclaimed local artist Shane “Q” where he placed “Top 10” on Season 17 of the NBC hit show “The Voice”! Along with Shane “Q”, the judging panel for this year’s Vocal Showcase boasts a tremendous amount of talent and experience that includes the returning judge Bobby Rogers, the beloved and longtime Director of Music at Woodland Joint Unified School District. The the award-winning 98 Rock’s FM radio station’s broadcaster, podcaster, journalist and producer Myki Angeline has been welcomed back from her valued judging of our past Hometown Heroes Battle of the Bands shows. Then rounding out the esteemed panel of judges is local country recording artist Rachel Steele who’s touring credits include opening for Brad Paisley, Big & Rich, Alabama, Jon Pardi, Trace Adkins and many others! This year is sure to bring the “wow” factor so don’t miss this year’s Vocal Showcase and support our local talent!
