Yolo County Fair totally “Ag-Cited” for the Vocal Showcase Aug 14th, 2025!
(Woodland, CA) -- The Yolo County Fair’s highly anticipated event, the “Vocal Showcase”,
formally and traditionally known as the “Yolo Idol”, continues to draw hundreds of ardent fans
to watch Yolo County talented contestants sing their hearts out with the hope of going home with
the title of First Place Winner! The Yolo County Fair’s entertainment director Ericka Davis is
totally “Ag-Cited”” to announce this year’s Karaoke contest!
2025 contestants for the formal karaoke contest are allowed to play an instrument as well as
perform their own original songs if they wish or they can choose the traditional option of singing
along to a karaoke track which is still the most popular option. Applicants are encouraged to
submit, along with their application, a video, YouTube link or recording of themselves. With
so many applicants submitting for this year’s Vocal Showcase, it will give Ericka Davis a chance
to assess the talent and narrow the number of contestants.
The Vocal Showcase contest will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14th,
and after the beloved regular singing competition, fairgoers feeling inspired to join in the fun will
have the exciting opportunity to also sign up to sing with a live band until 10:30pm. Signups for
“Live Band Karaoke” will take place on a first come first serve basis! Fairgoers will be able to
choose a song from an extensive song list, step up to the microphone and front the band as the
lead singer! Live band karaoke takes karaoke to a whole new level, so we’re excited to bring it
back this year for our talented community to shine bright at the fair!
Judging for the Vocal Showcase will be based on vocal quality, difficulty of performance, stage
presence, appropriateness of the song selection and appearance.
From the contestants, the Top 3 will be selected by judges to sing a second song, which will
determine the Vocal Showcase winner, runner up and third place contestant. The winners of both
the Vocal Showcase will take home $300 and the second and third place contestants will take
home $150 and $100, respectively.
Last year’s 2024 first place winner of the Vocal Showcase, Davis Resident Katherine
Berdovskiy was invited to sing an encore song during the show while the judges deliberate but
she’s unable to attend since she has the honor of attending the Boston Conservatory of Music so
we’ve invited Kris Lockett who was last year’s second place winner to sing the Encore in
Katherine’s place. Kris will also sing the National Anthem for this year’s Yolo County Fair’s
Demolition Derby on Friday night, 8/15/2025 so come out and cheer her on! The City of
Woodland has also invited Katherine to sing the National Anthem at this year’s 4th of July
Firework Show held at the Woodland High School on Thursday night, 7/3/2025 so we’re thrilled
she’s able to attend this wonderful event and thankful The City of Woodland has given this
annual opportunity to our 1st place winner of our Vocal Showcase Karaoke Contest!
Master of Ceremonies will be Woodland’s own Ericka Davis, recording artist and performer,
who’s dedicated passion of encouraging local talent to shine has motivated her to direct the show
for over 12 years and is celebrating her fourth year as the Yolo County Fair’s Entertainment
Director. She’s “Ag-Cited” to announce an extra special panel of 3 experienced judges with a
sweet country twist this year featuring the lovely Kathrine Weir ~ lead singer of “Highway
Vagabonds ~ A Tribute to Miranda Lambert”! Kathrine and her band will headline the main
stage on Saturday night, 8/16/2025 and is sure to bring the fire and country sass to our little
hometown Vocal Showcase! Along with Kathrine, the judging panel for this year’s Vocal
Showcase boasts a tremendous amount of talent and experience that includes the returning judge
Bobby Rogers, the beloved and longtime Director of Music at Woodland Joint Unified School
District and recently began his new adventure as Professor of Music at the Woodland
Community College. Then rounding out the esteemed panel of judges, Chuck “JonEmery”
Dodds is totally “Ag-Cited” to return as our third judge representing Yolo County’s music scene!
Chuck is a local singer-songwriter and founder of Left of the Dial Promotions whose mission is
to create all ages and all-inclusive music centric events to enrich, inspire and connect our
community through various platforms of art so we’re happy to have him return to the esteemed
judges panel! Don’t miss this year’s Vocal Showcase and support our local talent!
